John V. Olson, D.D.S. Dean The University of Texas Dental School at San Antonio The University of Texas Dental School at San Antonio was created by an Act of the Legislature on May 23, 1969- This established a second dental school in the State System, and gave the State its third dental school. The first beginning class of sixteen students entered on September 10, 1970 utilizing two multi- disciplinary laboratories borrowed from the Medical School and also using newly constructed space underneath the Auditorium. The new Dental School provides the existing Medical School and the teaching hospital with an additional dimension of the Health professions with the result that their faculties and staffs are working cooperatively on many projects. The faculty and administration of the new Dental School are creating a dental education program which makes use of some of the Medical School Curriculum as well as developing courses that are completely dentally oriented. Also, plans are being made for the construction of a new Dental School building that will accept 152 dental students each year along with dental hygienists, dental assistants, dental laboratory technicians and graduate students. It is expected that with the development of the Dental School and its various programs, that one of the Nation's largest and most productive Health Centers will be created. Also, it is expected that the cooperative projects between the Dental Branch at Houston and the Dental School at San Antonio will result in these dental schools providing National leadership in the field of curriculum development and also in the use of special teaching methods. Show them the good work we do here, baby. This mouthwash is highly recommended by all the members of the Dental School. 99
